Love and Deep Skies, a dark-skinned character, has been flaunting BUG for almost two years.

A 3D love-interacting hand-show, developed by a stack of paper game, has been in operation for almost two years, during which time, though controversial, it has been able to take its place at Android and iOS, but its long-standing technical problems are causing growing discontent among players – – The BUG led to the disappearance of the dark-coloured role in the animation of the scene.

Love and Deep Space is a B.E. game developed by a stack of paper game with Infod Games in charge of global distribution, known for its unique 3D action role. Players can develop feelings with five target audiences while confronting space monsters. But its core attraction lies in the mimic experience of immersion in love – through the incentive mechanism of the visual fictional chapter, the intimacy of detailed and dynamic performances between the protagonist and the strategist. Since it went online in January 2024, Love and Deep Space has reaped more than 50 million players globally, winning the Colón Best Hand-Travel Award this year, and has been well received for its delicate portrayal of the emotional needs of women. Although it is not a pioneer in diversity (the main actor has only one size and all the targets are light colour), the game provides a role-specific function with many dark colour options, which has been a breakthrough in the B-girl game, enabling dark-colour players to create a more intergenerational image. However, since the beginning of the launch, players have continued to report deficiencies in the game light system: dark-coloured characters may have an unnatural shadow or be directly invisible in a particular field. The complaints continued from the sale of the games to the present, as shown in the following figure:

While the problem is not repeated in all the arenas and the severity varies according to the colour of the skin, the core contradiction is that it is never possible to predict whether the role of a player who chooses the dark colour of the skin can normally be shown in an animation. Affected players indicated that feedback and complaints had been submitted to Infod on several occasions, and Infod Games, in its response to IGN, stated: “Infod Games has always been convinced that the game should be shaped with the player who loves it. The community ‘ s feedback, discussion and creativity are a source of continuous evolution of the life force of Love and Deep Space. We have followed the relevant discussions and valued every player who shared experiences. Comments on visual performance, narrative design and cultural presentation help us understand the multidimensional resonance of work in different cultural contexts. This game is essentially a shared world of emotions and imagination, and we look forward to continuing to work with players and to learning and improving in the process.”

The frustration of the player is understandable, and Love and Deep Space has been focusing on “extreme technology to achieve the trueness of the role hair, skin, clothing, etc.”. It would be understandable if only one-off failure of a role and quick repair were not officially recognized for two years, and dark-skinned players began to associate the problem with racism and colour discrimination. X-User StarPop previously wrote: “History love games always set white-skin character, and dark-skinned players didn’t find their own projection. For us, it is tantamount to playing others or pretending to be an image that does not belong to ourselves. White skin is equated with beauty because of race and colour, while dark skin is stigmatized as dirty, disgusting and not worthy of love — simply because it does not meet the aesthetic standards. When love games refuse to offer colored choices, it is tantamount to declaring that we are not worthy of love and attention.”

“At the time of the sale of Love and Deep Space, dark-skinned players were exulted to believe that they could finally adjust the main actor’s colour to represent themselves. But inappropriate light treatment essentially tells dark-skinned players that they don’t care if we can be clearly presented.” StarPop adds in his tweet, “It is impossible to design a light system only for the default colour, after all, that not everyone has the same colour.” While StarPop has expressed a personal view of the game experience in social media, a large number of comments by colorful players on platforms such as Twitter, Reddit, Discord and others over the past two years have argued that the feeling of StarPop is not exceptional. More seriously, recent evaluations indicate that players have lost confidence in the repair of the BUG. Although the community continues to encourage players to pass the questionnaire, most of them do not have real expectations:

A Reddit user replied in a related post three days ago: “I almost have to post this issue, but I realize it is not worth giving myself or others hope again. It’s not that they want to give up, it’s just that they need to be visible, not even perfect, but given the complexity of the light system, and the fact that they’re even on the edge of time. The bruises are so lazy that they are not colored (my character’s “smash” looks like he’s painted with a powder pellets, but it’s only five colours!) that I can only give myself one more “wrong” report and try to enjoy the cards.” “If a miracle happens, I’ll put all the praises directly in the Inford box.”
