Steam-generated AI game surges eight times a year! 8000 sections represent 20% of the 2025 new cruise.

Game Updates

The progressive development of generating AI is reshaping the entire technology industry. According to Totally Human ‘ s analysis of the generation of AI on the Steam platform, nearly 8,000 of the games currently launched on Steam disclose the use of generating AI, compared to 1,000 a year ago. Approximately 7 per cent of Steam’s total game library and 20 per cent of new games launched so far in 2025.

It is noteworthy that, while Steam requires that the use of a generated AI game in development must be disclosed, such disclosure is voluntary. As a result, the actual number of games created using a generated AI is likely to exceed 8,000.

In addition to disclosing whether or not a generating AI has been used, the developer must also specify its specific use. This information is shown on a board called “AI Generating Content Disclosure” on the Game Shop page. According to the analysis, 60 per cent of the currently disclosed generation AI uses are for virtual asset generation (i.e. creation of roles, background or art material).

Generating AI is also used for audio generation, text generation, marketing promotion material production and code generation. In addition, AI is used to mark defaults created by users and to generate in-plays triggered by player tips.

Currently, the Steam platform itself does not provide a filter to allow users to view only games that do not contain AI, but the third-party platform SteamDB has added this filter.

According to this year ‘ s GDC survey, most (52 per cent) developers indicated that their companies were using the Generating AI tool.

However, curiosity appears to have declined as usage increases. Nine per cent of respondents indicated that their companies were interested in generating AI tools, down from 15 per cent last year. Twenty-seven per cent of developers indicated that companies were not interested in using the tools, an increase of 9 percentage points compared to 2024.
